Okay, this is weirding me the hell out.
I have a follower who keeps complaining that they keep spontaneously unfollowing me, and now someone else who was following me seems to have had the same problem. Has this happened to anyone else?

what blows my mind the most is that being gay is grounds for the death in multiple countries
welcome to our ignorant fucked up world
Let’s hear it for Spain, Portugal, Canada, Sweden, Norway and Iceland!
What i should add is this map doesn’t show countries where being gay is illegal yet being lesbian is legal. Such countries are Guyana, most of the Pacific islands, Malawi and a couple more in Africa

An innovative initiative is taking place in the Philippines to bring sustainable lighting to homes in impoverished communities. Empty plastic bottles are installed in the roof, filled with water and bleach they refract sunlight. These “solar light bulbs” provide light equivalent to a 55watt light bulb.
See how they’re made here. From Visual News
Damn that’s awesome.
that is awesome.
A fantastic idea!

i never know what to do with proclamations like this one. it’s basically saying “made-up guy #1 totally took down made-up guy #2. you should care! follow guy #1! yayyy 1ism!”
i’m… good, thanks.
Well if that’s how you feel just ignore it. I’m not in the business of converting people, that’s for douches
as an atheist and an ex-catholic, i am interested in further exploring this. apologies for douchitude on my part; if it had occurred to me this was not an ironic post, i would have dialed it down a bit.
Don’t get me wrong, i wasn’t calling you a douche, i was saying that there are people who would have reacted like “How do you not believe in my god? You’re an awful, awful person and you’re going to hell unless you believe what i believe!”, and they are the douches.
obviously that doesn’t negate my antipathy towards the sentiment expressed, but it’s still a tiny olive branch..
anyway, i have a hard time with people using the idea of a Devil in christianity. in the Bible, we only ever really hear about people confronting the Devil or demons when Jesus is around, so in my mind, the Devil’s apparent purpose was solely to mess with Job and Jesus.
Well, the book of Job was never intended to be taken literally, and the devil does pop up at other times too. The devil probably did take a particular interest in corrupting Jesus because if he could corrupt the son of god, that’s a pretty huge victory.
If you believe what’s in the bible, there’s really no reason to doubt the devil’s existence or even think of him as something minor. I know you don’t believe in the bible, but for those who do, nothing in there casts doubt on the devil’s existence.
when i was a kid, growing up catholic, we never talked about satan or the devil or anything; evil existed because people rejected God’s love and love for one another, not because of an infernal malefactor.
That seems odd to me, but i have very little experience with catholicism. I’m Russian Orthodox, one of my parents is an atheist and one is a Jew, so i forged my own faith. If what you’ve described is the catholic church’s interpretation of the devil, i find that fairly confusing.
the book of Job, in my mother’s eyes, is testament that God tests us, not Satan.
That’s the point of that book, yes. God does test us, yet satan still interferes, it’s just not a ‘test’ in the same way.
Satan works for God (that’s Biblical!)
Actually, past tense. At the start, there were 8 archangels, Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, Ariel, Barachiel, Azrael, Raphael and Lucifer. Lucifer wasn’t happy being second to god and wanted more power, he rebelled against god and as such was cast down to hell, where he became the devil you hear about today.
so the above quote must mean, “Jesus is so great, he went up against God’s toughest angel and won.” still very meaningful, but probably not what Mr. Hunter meant.
Actually, according to the bible, god’s toughest angel is Michael.
As for what John L Hunter meant, i can’t be sure, i have no idea who that is. There could be a hidden meaning i’m missing, but i doubt it somehow.

The BBC is facing criticism after it accidentally used a picture taken in Iraq in 2003 to illustrate the senseless massacre of children in Syria.
Photographer Marco di Lauro said he nearly “fell off his chair” when he saw the image being used, and said he was “astonished” at the failure of the corporation to check their sources.
The picture, which was actually taken on March 27, 2003, shows a young Iraqi child jumping over dozens of white body bags containing skeletons found in a desert south of Baghdad.
It was posted on the BBC news website today under the heading “Syria massacre in Houla condemned as outrage grows”.
The caption states the photograph was provided by an activist and cannot be independently verified, but says it is “believed to show the bodies of children in Houla awaiting burial”.
A BBC spokesman said the image has now been taken down.
Mr di Lauro, who works for Getty Images picture agency and has been published by newspapers across the US and Europe, said: “I went home at 3am and I opened the BBC page which had a front page story about what happened in Syria and I almost felt off from my chair.
“One of my pictures from Iraq was used by the BBC web site as a front page illustration claiming that those were the bodies of yesterday’s massacre in Syria and that the picture was sent by an activist.
“Instead the picture was taken by me and it’s on my web site, on the feature section regarding a story I did In Iraq during the war called Iraq, the aftermath of Saddam.
“What I am really astonished by is that a news organization like the BBC doesn’t check the sources and it’s willing to publish any picture sent it by anyone: activist, citizen journalist or whatever. That’s all.
He added he was less concerned about an apology or the use of image without consent, adding: “What is amazing it’s that a news organization has a picture proving a massacre that happened yesterday in Syria and instead it’s a picture that was taken in 2003 of a totally different massacre.
“Someone is using someone else’s picture for propaganda on purpose.”
A spokesman for the BBC said: “We were aware of this image being widely circulated on the internet in the early hours of this morning following the most recent atrocities in Syria.
“We used it with a clear disclaimer saying it could not be independently verified.
“Efforts were made overnight to track down the original source of the image and when it was established the picture was inaccurate we removed it immediately.”
